Event Information 6 PD Hrs per dayThursday March 8th, 2012 Hands-on engaging activities are best way to involve students in mathematics. This workshop will present a variety of ideas for activities in the following areas: turning ideas into differentiated activities in all content strands (Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry and Statistics and Probability); developing mathematics activities that use ITCs; using activities to diagnose student misconceptions; and developing literacy activities to complement any mathematics topic. Please Note: Teachers will need a laptop computer with spreadsheet software. Friday March 9th, 2012 This workshop focuses on turning mathematics activities and investigations into assessable tasks that meet Australian curriculum requirements and challenge students at all levels. It covers the design of tasks, task sheets and assessment criteria; strategies to ensure the authenticity of student work; and tips to help students produce their best work. It also covers some principles for the design of supervised tests. Please Note: Whilst this workshop continues the work of the previous day's workshop on developing engaging classroom activities in mathematics, it is not necessary for participants to attend both workshops. |
