Participants will * Look at the ways authors make meaning * Notice these meaning making devices in classroom texts * Use this knowledge to inform planning for instruction for ESL learners * Understand how they can offer stronger support to students with ESL needs * Be better able to guide all of their students to authentic comprehension of text in easy and meaningful ways Participants are requested to bring a text that they plan to use with their students

About the Presenter Rita Mesiano is an education consultant with extensive experience in the fields of literacy, ESL and learning. She offers strong professional learning for teachers with a focus on meeting the language and learning needs of all students. She has been a literacy and ESL consultant with the Association of Independent Schools of Victoria, Critical Agendas, the Catholic Education Office Melbourne and school districts in the USA.
