This workshop will explore how to deal with challenging behaviour in the classroom by using Positive Behavioural Strategies and    other interventions to improve the students social and communication skills.

You will learn:

  • The reasons as to why children might misbehave.
  • Preventative and effective positive behavioural strategies to help when these challenging behaviours occur.
  • Strategies in teaching students how to manage their own emotions and take responsibility for their own behaviour.
  • What to do when things become violent.
  • How to teach and implement different positive reinforcement strategies to encourage desired behaviours.
  • Ways of teaching students appropriate social, communication and assertive skills to improve their friendships, self esteem and confidence and therefore have a postive impact on their learning and behaviour.

About the Presenter

Sue Watts is a clinical psychologist who for the last 8 years has been in private practice and specialises in working with children and adolescents who have a variety of childhood conditions. These conditions include ADHD, ODD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, variety of other behavioural difficulties, learning difficulties as well as various types of anxiety and depression. Sue works closely with the child, their parents/caregivers and schools to work collaboratively to ensure success in all areas of the child's life so they can achieve their goals to the best of their ability.
