In the last ten years research has totally transformed our understanding of how the brain works. The practical question for teachers though is what does this mean for the everyday classroom? This workshop offers practical easy to use strategies that use cutting edge discoveries about the brain to make the job of teaching easier and more productive.

Over the course of the workshop participants will:
*Learn revision techniques that draw our new understandings of how memory   works

*Evaluate engagement strategies and learning games that are specifically based on recent findings about the brain and young people

*Explore introductory research material on brain development

*Discuss how exciting new ideas like the concept of “neo-plasticity” can make the role of everyday teaching easier and more productive

*Review resources designed to teach students how their own brain works and strategies for study techniques to make the most of these insights


About the Presenter

Glen Pearsall  is a leading secondary school teacher and an acclaimed presenter of professional development for classroom teachers across Australia. He has presented a wide array of professional development seminars and workshops for the TLN, AEU and Critical Agendas. Glen has a particular interest in the development of young teachers and has also developed and delivered a program of renewal for mid-career teachers. His expertise is in high quality instructional practice, and the development of classroom cultures based on sound pedagogy and educational research. He is a board member of the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority, and has worked as a research fellow at the Australian Youth Research Centre.   He is also the author of the highly acclaimed “And Gladly Teach”,  an inspirational and practical book on creating supportive and cooperative classrooms.
