Severe language disorders may result in children experiencing significant school difficulties including poor academic progress, social isolation and low self-esteem. In this session Sally Sudweeks will provide a range of effective and proven strategies to assist teachers who have students with language disorders. Language is vital for communication and the sharing of ideas, through verbal, written or gestured symbols. The extent of vocabulary skills is reflected in the ability to be specific and able to explain thoughts.

This program will provide a selection of proven strategies teachers can use in the classroom, alongside everyday programs, to assist in the development of language including:

* A kinaesthetic mental model for decoding
* Cueing for sounds
* Increasing students vocabulary
* Pictures / story telling
* Together with parents


About the Presenter

Sally Sudweeks is an experienced teacher with a backgound in mainstream and special education and the co-founder of Beewise Inc. She has implemented numerous innovative education programs within the Education Department including, ‘Making Tracks’, ‘Your Story’ and ‘Hand Making Books and Personal Journaling’ demonstrating creative problem solving abilities and a passion for those experiencing reading and writing difficulties.
