Session One
*The real implications of AD/HD for educators - with thorough background understandings intervention strategies can be directed to support students directly at their 'point of performance'. Let's develop a framework from which to understand AD/HD, build awareness and construct genuinely effective interventions.
*Part I - Practical ideas to ease difficulties; academics, physical restlessness, impulsiveness, planning, organisation, routine, emotional integrity and friendships.
Session Two
*Part II - Practical ideas to ease difficulties; academics, physical restlessness, impulsiveness, planning, organisation, routine, emotional integrity and friendships. Case study; Jack's interventions
*Shifting the spotlight - The Social Control Window
The Social Control Window challenges us to think about our management style; how we work with students, how we control, how we use our authority and what we really look like. Without this pivotal understanding it is too easy to instinctively react to clumsy student behaviours in ways that are rigid and unhelpful. It really is possible for teachers to manage tricky student behaviours differently and more successfully.
Session Three
*Shifting the spotlight - the 4 Goals of Misbehaviour
Dealing with tricky student behaviour, and the emotion that accompanies it, is stressful. Educators who do best learn to live by Adler's and Dreikurs' 4 Goals of Misbehaviour. Effectively applying the learning from the 4 Goals of Misbehaviour requires educators to review, and progressively reconstruct their thinking. This takes real effort because for a long time we were caught up in a format of 'behaviour management' where exclusions and suspensions took a higher priority than how we related to students. Suddenly, the world changed, and being caught off guard is all too easy!
