This very engaging and informative workshop will explore the following four key component areas;

  • Understanding the diagnosis and other conditions that are also common to students with autism.
  • Theory of the mind and understanding their points of view.
  • Exploring strategies that help students with autism cope with language needs, anxiety and obsessive behaviours.
  • Social learning stories, writing and developing this tool to support autistic students learn social cues and appropriate behaviours.

About the Presenter

Emma McCarthy has specialised skills in functional analysis of challenging behaviour, educational case management and the connection between best practise welfare and education. Having worked to establish the Berry Street School in early days as Principal, she has strong leadership skills and experience in working with disengaged young people. She works as project manager for Hands On Learning Australia where she trains and coaches a range of professionals to manage disengaged students, complex special needs and disability.
