Boys Behaving Badly? Behaviour management for difficult to teach male students

Boys are overrepresented in behaviour management issues by well over factors of five to one, they disrupt more classes, are sent to the office more, are much more likely to be injured and in trouble and they also tend to dominate discussions about autism and ADHD. This highly practical workshop looks at –

  • Setting up a classroom that tackles common behavioural issue proactively
  • Responding well to negative behaviours including how to use humour and creativity
  • Developing classroom skill when faced with negative groups of boys
  • Developing good follow through to keep negative behaviour as isolated as possible
  • Creating school responses that support positive boy’s engagement
  • Making problem-solving part of the consequences of disruptive and disrespectful behaviour and
  • Using student buy in to help solve repeated misbehaviours

This workshop demonstrates how effective discipline on a daily basis enables teachers to become multi-talented educators who enable boys to be better by –

  • Planning for physical movement when learning
  • Training boys to be aware impulsive behaviour and learn to use think time
  • Organising boys learning in sequential steps with minimal multitasking
  • Ensuring the sensory experiences that boys need to learn well
  • Providing the extra time to memorise written material
  • Minimising classroom distractions
