Boys, Brains & Behaviour: Practical Strategies for Teaching Boys with ADHD

This engaging and practical session unpacks how ADHD shows up differently in boys and what teachers can do to meet their needs more effectively. Grounded in the latest research on attention, executive function, and self-regulation, Andy Hayes shares evidence-based strategies that bring calm, connection, and engagement back to the classroom. Teachers will learn how to interpret behaviour through a neurodevelopmental lens, create structure that supports focus, and design tasks that channel energy into productive learning. This practical session will empower participants with clear, actionable strategies that make teaching boys with ADHD more effective and rewarding for everyone.

Critical Agendas Speaker
Presented by Critical Agendas

Andy Hayes

Andy Hayes is a leading voice in ADHD education — a qualified teacher and ICF-accredited ADHD Coach who helps schools see what’s really happening in their classrooms and how to make it better. Drawing on his lived experience with ADHD and over two decades in teaching and leadership at an all-boys private school in Perth, Andy bridges the gap between research and reality with clarity, humour and practical insight.

Holding a Master of Education and a Graduate Certificate in Instructional Leadership, Andy delivers professional learning grounded in evidence and experience. Through his ADHD Support Triangle model, he helps school leaders, teachers and support staff decode how attention, emotion and executive function shape the ADHD brain, so behaviour makes sense, relationships improve and learning starts to stick. His sessions cut through theory and leave staff confident, energised, and equipped with strategies they can use immediately.

Just a big Thank you for giving us the opportunity to attend the Critical Agenda Workshop yesterday.  David presented a great program, lots of handy strategies and he was very engaging and supportive. Highly recommended.  I was very happy we did not have to do any Role play’s.
