From Hero to Host: A Smarter Way to Lead in Schools Term 2

How to lead effectively without doing everything yourself

Why this matters

Many leaders feel the pressure to step in, fix problems, and carry the load.

But over time, this leads to:

  • overload and burnout
  • over-reliance from staff
  • less ownership across the team

The harder you work, the more everything depends on you.

What this session offers

This session introduces a different way of leading—one that builds capability, trust, and shared responsibility.

Using the Host Leadership approach, you’ll learn how to:

  • step forward when leadership is needed
  • step back to create space for others
  • engage people without over-directing
  • build a culture where others contribute, not just comply

You’re likely already doing some of this. This session helps you do it more intentionally—and with greater impact.

Critical Agendas Speaker
Presented by Critical Agendas

Jason Pascoe

Jason Pascoe is a leadership consultant, coach, and facilitator specialising in Solution-Building Conversations and Host Leadership.

With over 20 years’ experience across education, health, and leadership development, Jason has worked with more than 50,000 educators and leaders across Australia and internationally. He is the Director of The Enactive Solution and Vice President of the Australasian Solution Focused Association.

Jason’s work is grounded in a simple idea: the quality of our conversations shapes the quality of our classrooms, teams, and outcomes.

In schools, this means helping educators:

  • handle challenging behaviour without escalation
  • reduce workload pressure by having more effective conversations
  • support student wellbeing without taking on more emotional burden
  • build stronger, more respectful relationships with students, colleagues, and families

His sessions are known for being highly practical, engaging, and immediately usable. Participants leave with simple tools and language they can apply straight away—in classrooms, staffrooms, and leadership conversations.

Rather than adding “one more thing,” Jason helps educators work smarter within the complexity they’re already navigating.

Drawing on Solution-Focused Practice and Host Leadership, Jason offers a clear, structured approach to:

  • leading without burning out
  • responding instead of reacting
  • creating small shifts that lead to meaningful change

If you’re looking for approaches that are realistic, evidence-informed, and actually work in busy school settings, these sessions are designed for you.
