Hear, Say, Show: EAL Strategies for Comprehension and Participation

You don’t need to be an EAL specialist to have EAL students who are struggling, and you don’t need a language qualification to help them properly.

Here is something most mainstream teachers don’t realise: a student who looks lost during instructions, goes quiet when asked to write, or never speaks up in discussion isn’t necessarily struggling with the content. Often it’s the language getting in the way, and there are specific, everyday strategies that address each of these separately.

Designed for mainstream secondary teachers with no EAL background, this hands-on workshop is built around three sessions: comprehension, production and participation. In each one, you will see practical strategies demonstrated, understand why they work, and consider how to use them with your own classes. You will come away with concrete strategies you can use immediately, whatever subject you teach.

Classroom Dynamics – the latest strategies and solutions to positive classroom management – Glen Pearsall

I really enjoyed the small group size. The sessions were interactive and we not only saw Glenn demonstrate how he would use strategies himself but we heard from other educators on their challenges and thoughts and also saw video examples from other schools. I find this multi modal style of presentation much more engaging. It was also appreciated to have a copy of the book to take back to school and access to the online platform.

“Build Positive Relationships and a Positive Work Environment Within Your Administration Team/Office by Sally Learey”

This session was one of the most empowering workshops that I have ever done and I leave the session with extremely useful and relevant tools to use going forward. Thanks so much to Sally for leading us in the session so positively.

Tina Hobbs – Administration Workshops

I have come away from this session feeling very inspired and so much more positive. I now have many new ideas/techniques/strategies regarding how I can better manage a workload that often feels overwhelming. Some of these can be implemented immediately while others are more long-term plans. Thank you for making this workshop so practical. I just wish that all school admin staff had the opportunity to undertake this course.

Just a big Thank you for giving us the opportunity to attend the Critical Agenda Workshop yesterday.  David presented a great program, lots of handy strategies and he was very engaging and supportive. Highly recommended.  I was very happy we did not have to do any Role play’s.
