Hidden in Plain Sight: Understanding ADHD in Girls and How to Support Them – December 2026
This professional development session explores how ADHD often presents differently in girls and why it is frequently overlooked. Educators and staff will develop a deeper understanding of internalised symptoms, masking behaviours, and co-occurring challenges, and leave with practical, classroom-ready strategies to better understand, identify and support girls with ADHD.
Teachers will learn how to:
- Develop a clear understanding of ADHD, including core characteristics and its impact on learning, behaviour, and wellbeing
- Understand how ADHD presents differently in girls and why this contributes to under-identification in school settings
- Identify subtle and internalised signs of ADHD in girls, including emotional dysregulation, perfectionism, and social withdrawal
- Understand the role of masking, social expectations, and gender bias in identification and student wellbeing
- Recognise common co-occurring challenges, including anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, eating disorders, and executive functioning difficulties
- Implement practical classroom strategies to support attention, organisation, emotional regulation, motivation and engagement
