Hidden in Plain Sight: Understanding ADHD in Girls and How to Support Them November

This professional development session explores how ADHD often presents differently in girls and why it is frequently overlooked. Educators and staff will develop a deeper understanding of internalised symptoms, masking behaviours, and co-occurring challenges, and leave with practical, classroom-ready strategies to better understand, identify and support girls with ADHD.

Teachers will learn how to:

  • Develop a clear understanding of ADHD, including core characteristics and its impact on learning, behaviour, and wellbeing
  • Understand how ADHD presents differently in girls and why this contributes to under-identification in school settings
  • Identify subtle and internalised signs of ADHD in girls, including emotional dysregulation, perfectionism, and social withdrawal
  • Understand the role of masking, social expectations, and gender bias in identification and student wellbeing
  • Recognise common co-occurring challenges, including anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, eating disorders, and executive functioning difficulties
  • Implement practical classroom strategies to support attention, organisation, emotional regulation, motivation and engagement

“Why Is This Young Person So Hard to Teach? Understanding the Diagnoses PDA, IED, ODD, CD and ASPD’ – Aphra Millis”

Aphra was great, so honest, down to earth and personable. I really loved the fact that she could talk to the topic both on a personal and professional level. She certainly raised awareness of a number of conditions and diagnoses that we are starting to see more of. Highly recommend her.

Classroom Dynamics – the latest strategies and solutions to positive classroom management – Glen Pearsall

I really enjoyed the small group size. The sessions were interactive and we not only saw Glenn demonstrate how he would use strategies himself but we heard from other educators on their challenges and thoughts and also saw video examples from other schools. I find this multi modal style of presentation much more engaging. It was also appreciated to have a copy of the book to take back to school and access to the online platform.
