Language teaching for non-specialist, out-of-field and returning teachers
This workshop has been developed to support non-specialist and out-of-field teachers who have been asked to teach a Language class as well as Language teachers who have recently returned to the classroom. It will provide a basic overview of key language acquisition theories and plenty of examples of how these theories can be put into practice in a Primary or lower Secondary classroom. Participants will explore ways to teach the key skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening as well as strategies to improve students’ understanding and use of vocabulary and grammar. All of the activities presented in this workshop are easy to create and adapt and are designed to ensure students make good progress and are enthusiastic about their Language classes.
This is a practical workshop and participants will have time to work with Rowena to develop activities that they can use with their classes immediately. Although the examples given in this workshop will come from French, the ideas presented are general in nature and can be applied in most Language classrooms, so teachers of all languages are encouraged to attend.
