Practical Tools to Reduce Burnout and Build Resilience in Education
Solution Building Conversations Online Course
The Challenge
Educators today face growing emotional demands — supporting students in distress, guiding overwhelmed colleagues, and holding communities through complex change. Over time, this takes a toll: secondary traumatic stress, emotional fatigue, and burnout are now leading causes of turnover across the profession.
The Response
Solution Building Conversations (SBC) provide a simple yet powerful way to respond. This strengths-based approach shifts dialogue from draining to energising.
Instead of problem analysis, SBCs invite educators to notice progress, amplify what works, and focus on what’s wanted next. This not only helps others move forward — it also strengthens the practitioner’s own wellbeing through vicarious resilience: the boost we experience when we witness growth and capability in others.
“Solution-focused communication not only improves outcomes for those we support, it reduces burnout and enhances wellbeing for the practitioner.”
— Medina & Beyebach (2014); Froerer et al. (2022)
What the Evidence Shows
In a recent pilot with educational leaders, participants recorded a 10.2% improvement in their Solution Building Mindset in just four hours of training.
All participants improved, showing growth in:
- Future orientation (+23%) – more hopeful, forward-looking conversations
- Positive noticing (+20%) – greater awareness of strengths and progress
- Resilience under pressure (+13%) – stronger capacity to stay calm and confident
Leaders described the experience as “lighter, more hopeful, and immediately useful.”
These results confirm that even brief SBC training reduces burnout risk and boosts resilience, optimism, and collective wellbeing.
