Quality Rubrics that Teach: From Developmental Progressions to Task Assessment
Design rubrics students actually use. In this upbeat, hands-on workshop you’ll translate Victorian Curriculum 2.0 standards into clear success criteria and high-quality descriptors—written with present-tense command terms and calibrated to Webb’s DoK. We’ll clarify when to use a developmental rubric (to track growth over time) versus a task assessment rubric (for a single product or performance), and show how both can lift clarity, challenge and consistency.
Across live modelling and quick-build sprints, you’ll write criteria, set weightings, and trial moderation using annotated samples. You’ll also create student-friendly versions and plan feedback using Hattie & Timperley’s feed up/feedback/feed forward to make progress visible.
You’ll leave with:
- A complete developmental rubric and a task rubric for a topic you teach
- A weighting matrix and moderation protocol with anchor samples
- A one-page student version with success criteria and reflection prompts
- A quality-check rubric audit tool to improve existing assessments
Who it’s for: Curriculum leaders and Primary/Secondary teachers who want reliable, standards-aligned assessment and rubrics that drive learning—not just marking.
