Teaching the Anxious Generation

Practical Classroom Responses to a Global Crisis

Have you noticed students over worrying, headaches, stomach-aches, avoiding almost everything, difficulty concentrating, lacking sleep, disruptive behaviour, overly aggressive, overwhelmed by the mundane, clinging to parents and being really hard on themselves?

This is all called “Anxiety”.

In his groundbreaking book “The Anxious Generation,” Jonathan Haidt explores how technology’s rapid integration into the lives of children and adolescents is reshaping their experiences and contributing to rising mental health issues.

Haidt argues that the digital age has fundamentally rewired childhood, altering the way young people interact with the world and each other, disrupting crucial social and emotional skills, and exacerbating feelings of loneliness, anxiety, and depression.

This interesting and thoroughly practical workshop explores the causes and trends in anxiety  and then delivers ten real-world practices every school and classroom needs to develop the confidence and capacity of this fragile generation.

The Ten Essential Practices are…

  • Promote Critical Digital Literacy
  • Foster Face-to-Face Interaction
  • Teach Mindfulness and Stress Reduction
  • Encourage Physical Activity
  • Promote Outdoor Learning
  • Provide Emotional Support
  • Educate Parents and Caregivers
  • Establish Clear Boundaries
  • Cultivate Positive Relationships
  • Align Mental Health Resources

This workshop is invaluable for both administrators and classroom teachers, offering positive, practical strategies and mindful insights that can transform teaching practices now and in the future.
