The Beginning Teachers Survival Pack March 2022
If you type in “Beginning Teacher Survival Pack “ into Google you will be overpowered with everything from chocolate and chewing gum to over a hundred checklists, worksheets and guides that will keep you busy until your early retirement from emotional exhaustion.
The problem is that if these were a survival pack they would be so big that you would need superhuman strength to lift them and you would die from physical exhaustion just trying to walk away from danger.
This workshop is about the basics of behaviour management…the true approaches that allow us to test early, fail fast and respond to things as we go along that lead to good teaching and student learning.
The workshop teaches beginning teachers the simple routines that enable them to control a class throughout a lesson from day to day, week to week term to term.
You will learn about the basics of control and influence. How to build a respectful relationship, class rules, correcting behaviours, small responses that keep things calm and what consequences work and what consequences do not to do.
You will also learn simple routines that make life easier such as
- How to get your class into the room
- Seating arrangements that work
- The first five minutes
- Starting your teaching with a hook
- Pacing a lesson
- Ending a lesson well
- Transitioning from one idea or lesson to the next.
While this workshop will offer you lots of resources and a treasure trove of small teaching jewels it focuses on how to develop your Teaching TLC.
That is your ability to
- Think like a teacher in charge of a class,
- Listen to what your student’s behaviour is telling you and
- Communicate clearly the behaviour you want them to develop.
In the end the workshop provides beginning teachers with a thriving kit.
