Powerfully Assist Your Student with an ASD (and other Visual Learners) through Visual Supports

ASD students often have difficulty processing or understanding language or ideas.

Visual supports are excellent tools to support ASD students in the learning and teaching process.

Visual supports can be objects, photographs, drawings, written words, schedules or symbols that help to increase independence, support understanding, encourage effective communication, reduce anxious behaviour, promote engagement in learning tasks, provide structure and routine and support transitions.

Visual supports can also be tools that support organization, summarisation, comprehension and retention of knowledge as well as tools to illustrate relationships between concepts, terms, and facts. Examples of such tools are graphic organisers, anchor charts, diagrams, webs, learning maps and timelines.

This workshop explores the range, uses and benefits of using visual supports to enhance understanding, learning and retention.
