ChatGPT and Artificial Intelligence in Language classes: amplifying the good, reducing the bad and eliminating the ugly
The rise of generative AI such as ChatGPT has seemingly turned the world of education on its head almost overnight. While the immediate reaction of many teachers has been to ban ChatGPT and other chatbots, they can be highly effective in a Language class, if they are used in the right context. In this workshop, participants will explore what the research says about the best ways to use AI in Language classes as well as practical activities where this technology can be used to strengthen students’ skills in all areas of language learning.
This is a hands-on workshop and participants will come away with a host of new ideas for activities as well as teaching materials that they will develop during the workshop. Although the examples given in this workshop will come from French, the ideas presented are general in nature and can be applied in most Language classrooms, so teachers of all languages are encouraged to attend.
