Positive Leadership in Schools: An Existential Approach

“Positive Leadership in Schools: An Existential Approach” is a dynamic workshop designed to equip educational leaders with advanced leadership tools that blend positive organisational psychology with existential principles. This workshop explores leadership styles that not only foster growth and trust but also encourage a deeper engagement with personal and organisational values, aligning work with a meaningful educational mission.

– To introduce leadership theories grounded in positive psychology with an integration of existential philosophy.
– To empower leaders to create a vision that resonates on a deeper existential level with their teams and the broader school community.
– To develop leadership skills that promote a positive, supportive, and growth-oriented school culture.
– To enhance leaders’ ability to manage themselves and their relationships with others through a framework that values authenticity and meaningful connections.

Workshop Content:
1. Existential Leadership Foundations: Understanding the role of existential thought in leadership—how leaders can find and impart meaning, purpose, and authenticity in their interactions and decision-making processes.
2. **Crafting a Vision with Purpose**: Techniques for leaders to develop and communicate a compelling vision that connects with the personal and professional aspirations of their staff.
3. Leadership Styles that Foster Growth and Trust: Exploring various leadership styles through the lens of positive psychology, and how these can be adapted to include existential principles to enhance motivation and engagement.
4. Building a Positive School Culture: Strategies for cultivating an environment where staff and students feel valued and inspired, focusing on creating meaningful relationships and a sense of belonging.
5. Navigating Challenges Existentially: Handling common leadership challenges in schools by applying existential strategies, focusing on authenticity, resilience, and adaptive change.
6. Workshop Activities and Role-Playing: Interactive sessions where participants can practice their leadership approaches in simulated scenarios, receiving feedback in a supportive setting.
7. Sustaining Change and Impact: Discussion on maintaining and adapting existential leadership practices over time, ensuring that they continue to inspire and lead effectively in changing educational landscapes.

Participants will leave with a sophisticated understanding of how existentialism and positive psychology can be woven into leadership practices to create more meaningful and effective educational environments. Leaders will be equipped with practical tools and insights that promote personal and professional growth, trust, and a positive, purpose-driven school culture.

The workshop is led by a seasoned Positive Psychology Coach with deep expertise in coaching psychology, positive organisational psychology, and existential well-being. The facilitator is dedicated to enhancing the capabilities of educational leaders through tailored training that addresses the unique challenges and opportunities within educational settings.

Michelle Falzon

Michelle is a mother of 2 beautiful children, an educator & student wellbeing coordinator, lover of learning, and advocate for positive mental health and wellbeing. After facing an unexpected tragedy almost 9 years ago that completely changed the trajectory of my life, she now sees herself as a survivor and not a victim. So, it is with this strong mindset that she dedicates herself and the work that she does each day to supporting others.

She’s a firm believer that knowledge is power, and when we are taught to recognise our own God-given strengths, then we are empowered to take action each and every day to be the best version of ourselves. As an educator and student wellbeing coordinator, she strongly advocates for education travelling far beyond the four walls of any classroom. All her work within positive psychology and coaching psychology is created to support individuals develop and sustain habits of good health and positive thinking that is life-long and sustainable. She strives to have people acknowledge and understand that they themselves are the authors of their own stories that they so wonderfully create in life.
